Positioning is the art of carving out a niche for a company or product, and maintaining and defending that niche through marketing activities. Positioning builds upon a thorough understanding of specific expectations and needs of each segment within a given market. Armed with that knowledge, a company may begin to construct a product or service offering to reach each segment. A company that has achieved a dominant niche position is able to:
